I have to add this post on here in respect of my favorite baseball team, The Chicago Cubs. Though it has been almost 100 years since our last World Series Championship. I feel compelled to share the best baseball song other than the infamous “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”( Which was made famous by Cubs legend Harry Caray). This is the the song “Go Cubs Go”. The song was written by a man named Steve Goodman. As a lifelong cubs fan and songwriter, he decided to write and record a song about his favorite baseball team actually two months before he died of Leukemia. He was given the shot by WGN radio and took up on the offer. The song was written almost 25 years ago, when the Cubs were in the 1984 playoff hunt. Steve Goodman died 4 days before they clinched. In just two years now of playing “Go Cubs Go”, Cubs fans have embraced this song after every home victory. And the fans do not leave after the song has finished. Maybe Steve Goodman is pulling strings in heaven to help the Chicago Cubs win this year too. This is the secondtime in those long 100 years that the Chicago Cubs have won back to back division championships. as well. It’s Gonna Happen. So here is to my favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
“They’re singing…
“Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go, Hey Chicago, what do you say.The Cubs are gonna win today”
Good to see your post invoking “Go, Cubs, Go” by Steve Goodman. He often doesn’t get his due. You might be interested in my 800-page biography, “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.” The book delves deeply into the genesis of “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” and its semi-sequel, “Go, Cubs, Go.”
You can find out more at my Internet site (below). Amazingly, the book’s first printing sold out in just eight months, all 5,000 copies, and a second printing of 5,000 is available now. The second printing includes hundreds of little updates and additions, including 30 more photos for a total of 575. It just won a 2008 IPPY (Independent Publishers Association) silver medal for biography: http://www.independentpublisher.com/article.php?page=1231. To order a second-printing copy, see the “online store” page of my site. Just trying to spread word about the book. Feel free to do the same!
